My introduction to Great Kids Farm came by way of a company day of service some years ago.  I work with Enterprise Community Investment, founded by James and Patty Rouse to address affordable housing and community development in the early 1980s. One of their legacies is a spirit of civic commitment beyond the bricks and sticks of housing. Over the years, I have seen the Farm develop. I remain amazed this unique resource is available to the kids of Baltimore.

I remember arriving to work on the worm bins one sunny morning. Greg Strella, the Farm Manager, casually educated our group on tending the worms, drinking some water out of a mason jar with just a little dirt in it. His way was suggestive, not directive. I thought that the kids must have a great time working with him. When my daughter came out to the farm with her school class, I was excited she could experience Great Kids Farm.

Nearly 2 years ago I had the opportunity to join the board of the Friends of Great Kids Farm. I jumped at it. Focusing on the financials for the organization was a real education, and a pleasure. There is so much going on at the Farm. The staff is absolutely committed to creating an idyllic educational resource for the kids of Baltimore City Public Schools. They work hard and often irregular hours. They deserve all our support to continue developing the Farm and it's programs.

Friends of Great Kids farm is maturing as a booster organization. With Chrissa Carlson taking the lead as Executive Director, our momentum has increased.  Her excitement and commitment have resulted in real progress toward sustainable support for the Farm by Friends.

There are many ways each of us can individually support the Farm. Come out to a Farm Tour one day to learn more. Or attend our big event on October 11th. Or just give Chrissa or someone on the Board a call. It's that easy!
